INSIGHTS: Breaking
the Power of Negative Words
As I was
listening to “Revive Our Hearts” on the radio, Nancy Leigh
DeMoss read, "Bless those who persecute you" (Romans
12:14). She said, “Don't speak evil of them. Don't curse
them. Don't speak evil to your children about their dad,
your ex-husband. Don't speak evil to a co-worker about your
boss. He may be a lousy boss, but don't return cursing for
cursing. Bless them instead.”
The Bible calls these negative words word curses.
Probably
the greatest task of prayer counseling ministry is to break
the spiritual power of negative words that have been spoken.
We can all remember words that we have spoken, that
we immediately wished we could have taken back.
We surely remember negative words spoken over us,
that actually damaged our self-esteem and hindered our
progress.
I bet the
discouraging words of a teacher, sibling, minister
or parent come to mind immediately, even though they
were spoken many years ago.
Words have more than psychological power;
they have spiritual power too.
When we agreed with those lies, our enemy,
the devil, worked hard to make those negative words
come true.

God created
the whole universe using words and we are created in His
image. He has
delegated to us the power “to build or tear down our own
house with our words.”
How? We tend
to blame others whom we believe have blocked our success,
but the Bible says that we reap what we sow, not what they
sow. You may believe
that they caused the repetitive negative cycles in your
life, but God says that a curse without a cause cannot
light. (Proverbs
26:2)
That’s good
news! It means that
no matter how much someone cursed you, their words don’t
necessarily have lasting effect.
You may believe the lie and empower it -- or react
sinfully and empower it.
(Silent unspoken reactions count.)
If you judge them with condemnation, hold resentment
and unforgiveness or curse them back, you will begin to reap
the curse in your life.
If you bless them back, their words cannot harm you.
The law of sowing and reaping says YOU WILL REAP WHAT
YOU SOW, MORE THAN YOU SOW AND LATER THAT YOU SOW.
Don't repay evil for evil. "Don't be overcome with
evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:21)
Spiritual laws are just as sure as physical laws,
whether you believe them or not.
Gravity works whether you are a believer or
not and you reap what you sow regardless. If you sow
blessing, you will reap blessing. If you sow
cursing—even to those who cursed you—that is what
you are going to reap. Sowing negative words is like
a sowing a time bomb that will surely go off sooner
or later.

How can
you break the power of word curses spoken over you?
FORGIVENESS 5 WAYS.
First, you know you have to (1.) forgive them for
saying the curse like, “You will never be able to … .”
(But that is only 20% of the solution.
To cover the other 80% you have to forgive 4 more
ways.) (2.) If you
judged them with condemnation, you must ask God to forgive
you too. (3.) If you
blamed God for their behavior, you must ask God’s
forgiveness. (4.) If
you returned evil for evil, you must ask for forgiveness for
your own sin. (5.) If
you believed the lie, you must forgive yourself for
believing the lie as well.
It’s not
too late; you can call me or someone in spiritual authority
over you and ask us to pray with you.
First, make a list of all the word curses that have
been spoken over you.
We can pray FORGIVENESS 5 WAYS and Jesus will release you
from having to reap what you have sown, in reaction to their
sin. Jesus is not a
time creature; He will go back in time and break the power
of the words spoken.
He has died on the cross to provide for your healing, body,
soul and spirit. When
you invited Christ to live inside you, you received the
power to bless others.
Jesus is ready to forgive you, to bring the crop
that you have sown to death and to resurrect a whole
new crop of blessing in it’s place.
He will take the pain out to the lies spoken
over you as He heals each wound.
His desire is to leave the wisdom you gained
from the memory. 2 Timothy 2:25 says that with
humility we
can gently instruct others who are opposing
themselves and the Lord, hoping that they will
repent and know the truth, escaping a snare.

I am
preaching to myself here.
Please pray that we can all understand the power of
sowing blessing into the lives of others. We have a choice.
When we criticize and condemn, we put more prison
bars around them and their weakness.
We actually assist the devil to imprison them with
the fault. OR - We
can choose to assist the angels to empower them to overcome
their weaknesses, by speaking God’s truth into their lives.
We help them to believe God’s truth about themselves,
as we speak new strength, hope and supernatural ability into
their hearts.
Praise God
for His inexhaustible grace!
